AARP Fraud Alert: Inside the Criminal Mind In-Person
Join us on Monday, September 30, at 7 pm for a presentation on fraud and how to avoid being a victim, presented by John Wilson, volunteer state president, and Tia Murphy, former volunteer state president, AARP Connecticut. The program is being offered in honor of October as Crime Prevention Month, and will take place in our Program Room, Radcliffe Building, Perrot Memorial Library.
This program looks at the psychology behind ID theft, fraud & scams through actual footage of scammers, insights and advice. Walk away armed with tools to spot the criminals and stop them in their tracks.
John Wilson is the volunteer state president with AARP Connecticut. Among other activities, he is very active in the Fraud Watch Network, where he speaks to public groups throughout Connecticut about how to avoid becoming a victim of fraud. He also volunteers at the national level of AARP on the Fraud Helpline. In this capacity, he speaks one-on-one to victims of fraud who have called the Fraud Helpline seeking advice on recovering money lost to criminals and coping with the emotional ordeal of being a victim of a crime.
Tia Murphy is a recovering corporate executive with over 30 years of business experience in the Telecommunications and Cable industries. Tia earned her MBA in Marketing and Finance from Loyola University of Chicago. Tia continues to actively volunteer with AARP focusing on causes near and dear to her heart, including elder justice, fraud prevention, caregiving, aging in place, advocacy and disrupting aging.
